Lengthy research in Spanish archives and sophisticated technology have enabled many other famous 1733 Spanish Galleon Trail: Explore the Spanish Plate Fleet disaster of 1733. A recently constructed 110 foot galleon, the Nuestra Señora de Atocha, was designated the almiranta of the Tierra Firme Fleet. The fleet departed Spain on March 23, 1622 and after a brief stop at the Caribbean Island of Dominica, the Atocha and the Tierra Firme Fleet continued on to the Colombian port city of Cartagena, arriving in Portobello on May 24th. The only shipwreck that can be identified with a certain degree of accuracy is the Cabin Wreck, about two miles south of the Sebastian Inlet.
